Perth Mindfulness Meditation Course – What is covered?

In this course you will learn and practice how to :

  • Develop the required type of effort to be more skilful in training our mind.
  • Be more attentive and start noticing and acknowledging more.
  • Develop greater acceptance, awareness, mindfulness & concentration.
  • Be kinder toward ourselves and others to help support ourselves and others in our practice.

Each week we will practice meditation together, share about our own meditation experience, learn from each other's meditation experience and receive support and guidance about our practice.

In the first & second week we will learn the base technique of how to use awareness of sensory input combined with mindfulness of our physical body and our breath.

This base technique will help us start noticing and being more mindful of our current reality through our perceived state of our mind and body in the present moment.

In the third week we will continue with practice of the base technique and explore being kinder toward ourselves and others to help create a supportive environment for our practice.

In the fourth week we will ground the previous weeks' practice and discuss how to be mindfully present with any emotions that arise inside and outside of our practice.

In Zen culture, activities are performed with one-pointedness of the mind.

In this session Meath will introduce you to Zen Meditation. He feels there is much from this contemplative tradition that we can borrow to deepen and enrich our typically busy lives.

Meath draws from a rich history and many years of practice. He performed his first Buddhist Vipassana in the mid 1960s in Thailand. He spent time in South India with teachers including Catholic Monk Bede Griffiths from Saccidandanda Ashram, and Hugo Enomiya Lassalle & Ama Samy of Bodhi Zendo. Additionally he delivered lectures to the Tibetan monastics on Western Contemplative Tradition at the request of the Dalai Lama.

His years of practice and ecumenical attitude disposes him to a relaxed and open sharing of his own journey and an encouraging willingness to listen to yours.

Deepen Your Meditation

The Buddha spent decades teaching the Path to liberation from suffering. Many people attained liberation (nibbana or nirvana) in the Buddha's lifetime, and thanks to the teachings that have been passed down through the centuries, many others continue to realise this freedom today.

Deepen Your Meditation aims to develop your understanding of the art of meditation, provide practical guidance for your personal practice, and clarify uncertainties you may have with regards to this Path, in order for you to personally realise the fruits of Awakening.

Li-Anne, your teacher, is sanctioned to teach in the Mahasi tradition, is currently doing a teacher training course in Culadasa’s Ten Stage Model to Awakening and draws from teachings by Sayadaw U Tejaniya and other meditation masters of various different lineages.

The class will sometimes start with a Dhamma talk, followed by a silent meditation. We will then discuss your meditation practice, and end with a metta meditation.

Please arrive at the centre 5-10 minutes early, and be seated prior to the 7pm start. Please note that you may have to wait outside if you arrive after the start of the Dhamma talk.

Unified Mindfulness is a scientific-based systematic training in mindfulness, developed by Shinzen Young, that teaches the three attention skills of :
